It's interesting to recall that when Reagan was running for, winning and then remaining president, we who watched and listened mainly to the ABC (this is all pre-internet of course) were fed a steady stream of ridicule of this man.

The Yanks haven't had a decent President since Eisenhower. The 1965 immigration acts, signed off on by one Ted Kennedy, spelled their doom.
