It should be noted that Thomson insists he could not have racked up those charges because he was often elsewhere when they were billed to his union's members. The auditors remain dubious, however:
"We are not satisfied that the mere fact that a service was recorded on the cardholder statement on a date when Thomson was not in New South Wales is conclusive proof that the service was not incurred by him, having regard to the not uncommon practice of credit card transactions being processed on days following the provision of the service to which the transaction relates and the possibility that the payments may have been made remotely."Does one need to be terminally suspicious to see a possible explanation for ex-wife Crista's apparent determination to accompany her hubby on as many of his trips as possible?
That headline. Please stop those puns.
ReplyDeletePlenty of references to restaurants and catering in the company names of those brothels. One wonders exactly what is being eaten, and by whom.
ReplyDeleteAs someone hinted over on the good Ms Devine's blog: now that those trading names have been tied to current and former "houses of ill repute", there are plenty of Sydney women who are going to be giving their husbands', fiances' and boyfriends' credit card statements a good going over. I think the relationship counsellors and divorce courts will be doing a brisk trade in the next few months, and there might be a glut of second-hand wedding and engagement rings too.
Enough, Bunyip, or you'll blow Batman's secret identity. You think it's easy rooting out crime ?
ReplyDeleteGood point about the lady wife's trips professor. One could also wonder how many she remembers actually taking.
ReplyDelete$2,475 must have beeen some party, Prof. I wonder who attended. Someone must know, so let's find out.
ReplyDelete09 April –05 must have been a doozy, looks like he may have had some friends with him or a ton of Viagra, interesting to know how many tagalongs he may have had, must be sh$$tng in their pants if the truth ever gets out, was his wife in WA with his card and him in NSW.
DeleteFrom an old article in the SMH
ReplyDeleteDavis continued: "And the documents suggest the Commonwealth Bank MasterCard in Mr Thomson's name was used to make payments to operators of a Sydney brothel and two escort services as well as numerous payments to restaurants and bars and for purchases of personal items."
Davis had been given the credit card statements for Thomson's union card showing: a payment of $330 in February 2003 to Aboutoun Catering of North Sydney, which is listed in the Yellow Pages as an escort service; two payments of $570 and $2475 in 2003 and 2005 to Keywed Pty Ltd Restaurant in Surry Hills, a company listed on the internet as the payee for clients of the Sydney Outcalls Network, an escort agency; and a payment of $418 in June 2005 to Nolta Pty Ltd, a company that South Sydney City Council records show operates Tiffanys brothel in Surry Hills.
Hm, Looks like the oldest profession actually pays well!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know shepherds were operating in Sydney these days but could be shepherding cats and perhaps that's why it's taken going 4 years for FWA to investigate the brothel-creepers creeping.
DeleteIgnore the commenter that doesn't like puns. The worse they are the better they are.
ReplyDeleteAnd so say all of us!
DeleteIndeed! Punning is a vice... and there is no vice versa.
Delete"..they were billed to his union's members."
ReplyDeleteShouldn't that be -
" ... they were billed for his member's union"
or
"he can't remember his member being in union".
"he can't remember his member being in union"
DeleteI think there might have been more than one for the $2450 session...
"Please stop the puns!"
ReplyDeleteDoes your punitive come up all puny?
Double entendres sending you loony?
Keep taking small doses,
And then the psychoses
Will gradually look much less Goony.
Billed twice on 16 Aug 07. Twas so good seconds were called for.
ReplyDeletePerturbed, God help the poor innocent husband who dropped into the dodgy restaurant for a dim sim or two.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago in WA while Mr Burke was in power my father went to the works department to see if there were any contracts to be had..
ReplyDeleteThe Premiers brother saw them and more or less explained they could receive contracts in exchange for unspecified support at a later date.
He then invited them for a "closed session" at a local house of ill repute.
Dad backed out, but I do wonder how many Perth businessmen were photographed nuts deep for later reference by Burkies mates?
Not that Id suggest similar, widespread and pervasive actions might be a standard procedure within the workers party in Australia...
Others might imply the strange inability of charges to stick, or even be forwarded could be explained by such hypothetical photos, I wouldnt of course....
