Golden Day

THE WEATHERPERSON predicts a bonza week, so there is every chance the Billabong will go quiet for a few days. Fish need to be caught and golf must be played. Indeed, if not for the third presidential debate tomorrow, the Bunyipmobile might be on the road and bound for the bush this very minute.

Ignorant people rave about Paris in spring. They should try Victoria at this time of year.

UPDATE: Bugger this business of sitting at a keyboard on such a beautiful day, says Doctor Yowie, who has just called to suggest a pleasant round. Back later, when comments will be posted as a job lot.

    1. Perchance the Bunyip was referring to the State rather than the City. However Minicapt you are right. Butchart Gardens are delightful at any time of year not just Spring time - going to get my next fix of them next March the Great Pumpkin permitting.

Melbourne in the Spring is a delight Prof, but I have just sneaked a long weekend in Hobart, thanks to kind friends, closely overlooking the sandy bay of the Derwent estuary. To me it recalls residing on the shores of Lake Como. Crisp, fresh and lovely, bursting with the darling buds coming into being while the great mountain, floured with snow, hangs as conquering peak, mist-drifting down between sunlight and doom as the river mirrors sleek Monet-water back in homage to beauty. A magical place, marred only by its politics.

    1. Lizzie,
We consider our politics to be an object lesson for the rest of the country: don't return Labor-Green governments!

Unfortunately, the electorate didn't listen in 2010, but the ACT learned some of the lesson at the weekend, but the Hare-Lip system works miracles at empowering everybody's third preference.

We have also been trialling a new economic model: buy assets and then close them down. Wotif Wood and Jan Cameron bought a woodchip mill and closed it down. Gunns is broke, and Forestry is on the slide. The delicious irony is that Cameron's retail investment in Chickenfeed has now hit the skids and most outlets are closing their doors and leaving rents unpaid. It's going a treat!

This is the perfect model for the rest of Oz: think climate change and all those climate holocaust inducing power stations; buy 'em and close 'em down.

I have seen the future and it is shaped like Tasmania!!

    2. Lizzie, as a resident of Hobart, the eastern shore rather than Sandy Bay, I agree with your comments, magnificent sunsets from this side. Waiting to see the Watermelon Labor/Green excuse for government go down in a blaze, sadly may take a while with a 4 year cycle. We get a double whammie with Federal as well. But TRUTH will out and maybe resolve my woes

May Tassie keep its magic but lose its loony politics, and may then all your woes be over, TassieM.

But if the Australian future is shaped like Tasmania's management now then a very hard lesson is set to be learned on the mainland too.

Put it out and about everywhere. Do not vote Green anywhere, for any reason. Green is poisonous. Keeping Tasmania alive is the way to keep it beautiful.

  4. I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains ............

    Victoria isn't bad either.
