Prof, there should be a Nobel Prize for cartography with the inaugural prize given to Stuart McArthur for having really discovered the AFL's geopolitical significance.
Next. Geocentricity. There isn't a solid fact in science that says the Earth isn't somewhere near the center of the Universe, or within a Euclidean inch of it at least. Natural Philosophy [falsely renamed science] was always and rightly subordinate to general philosophy. The MCG could well be the center of the known universe.
As Julia, David Suzuki and Al Gore challenge the weather gods like McBeth's witches tried to upset the natural order of kings dark clouds gather over the preternatural rise of Sydney.
Its time to look to your chicken entrails. Better reading than the Age.
She Who Must Be Paid Lip Service To and I reached a decision a few weeks back to stop buying the Age (Sat and Sunday), a habit that we had formed many years ago. What a wonderfully liberating experience it has been. We miss it not one iota, and read news papers that print news (radical thought) rather than run campaigns or preach, and pocket a few extra bob for more sybaritic pursuits. We are now Ageless! And wealthier for the experience in more ways than one!
Speaking of reading entrails, I hear Monica Attard was back on the ABC this morning, talking to little Johnny Faine - isn't it great that she was able to get a job there after leaving them to head up the big donator-to-the-Greens vanity lefty web thingy, which somehow went wrong for our Mons - probably the donator expected to have editorial say or some silly rubbish. How conservative!
Whatever happened to that nice young man who may or maynot, have sparked a riot in Canberra oh so long ago? Has anyone heard from him?
I love the new Conroy look, the red undies .. nearly wet myself when I saw it. Someone is going to be sorry about that!
Indeed. Nostradamus wrote a quatrain about it, I beleive.
"In the end times shall the bird of prey Be humbled by the cygnet of the northern city, Wherein a mighty storm shall next day rise, A rabid dog shall tear the slater's ear."
Enough of your poesy! I'm just pissed I baulked at the free money the bookies were giving away yesterday on the Storm. $1.80! For a victory never in doubt! Smart bettors must thank the Canterbury-Bankstown community for all the dumb money they put on the Dogs.
Cynic. Churl. You're right about the storm and anyway who cares about a code where the players try to bite each others' ears off. But the Swans -- hands off. Look at some of the players who DO come from Sydney. McVeigh. Jack. Roberts-Thomson. Bird. There's a winning team by itself. Not to mention all our heroes who hail from Albury or Wagga like Kells and Kirkie. OK it's a modest start but the "indigemous" NSW list grows each year.
I am a newby in all things footie, on a steep and not too committed learning curve. (I'm doing it for the sake of sharing with my beloved a main joy in his life).
It all seems rather Marcel Mauss to me: gift exchanges between Sydney and Melbourne of precious relics, serving the useful purpose of integrating two warring geographical tribes. Like the Olympian fields of Ancient Greece.

DeleteNot possible; the Canucks play in 'Roger's Arena'.
Cheers

None so blind, prof.
Very clever. Attributable to John Nostradamus no doubt?

ReplyDeleteI think you are overstating the significance Bunyip.
ReplyDeleteNone of the players from the Storm come from Melbourne, and very few of the Swans players come from Sydney.

DeleteAs a former Sydneysider, I prefer to think of Melbourne as Leda just at the moment...
ReplyDeleteRagingcato, Millthorpe
Nope! Both matches were won by teams from the deep south.
ReplyDeleteNothing has changed!

Or will it all end in tears? Nostradamus maybe?
Here be the "Antipodes" …
ReplyDeleteCheers
As far as I'm concerned the Swans are still South Melbourne and always will be. I note they still wear SMFC on the back of their guernseys.
