(H/T this Catallaxy thread)
Eddie McGuire, who is a good deal older than 13 years of age, was amongst the first to denounce a child for a barrackers' comment she didn't know might be construed as racist. Adam Goodes was pushed to the brink of a nervous breakdown by the remark and the even more shocking thought that someone does not share his subjective view of what constitutes racist language, with much sooking for the cameras.
Now, by his own standards, McGuire has uttered an offence far more foul.
Eddie must resign, submit to counselling, and then banish himself forever from the public stage.
Anything less would be hypocrisy.
It will be fun to watch all Eddie's mates, so keen to put the boot into a Moe teenager, finding excuses for not replicating that earlier outrage in regard to their pal.
UPDATE: McGuire has a sorry history of racism. He needs to be burned at the stake.
"...your 17-year-olds, who'll be sick of living up in the land of the falafel in western Sydney playing in front of a 12,000-seat stadium that's still not put up," McGuire said.further proof, this time of his intolerance for Muslims:
McGuire has declared his next "crusade"and he sees a light complexion as synonymous with intelligence:
any fair-minded person would say no.asked to take part in a celebrity game, he refused, as the Telegraph noted:
"McGuire rejects invitation to play in Blacktown"This man needs to be dragged in front of Judge Mordy, who knows what to do with the monster who said this:
"I'd love to interview Adolf Hitler"Most damning of all, sheets just like these have been observed in McGuire's linen closet. Indeed, he is even said to sleep between them:
Thanks, Eddie, for spoiling the Indigenous Round, which was going so very well.

ReplyDeleteI always have a chuckle when the luvies get blown up by their own bombs.
Though I loathe both, I can forgive wank but gall at hypocrisy. Have we been getting more of both in public discourse lately I wonder? I believe we have.
ReplyDeleteThe saying :
"Hypocrisy is a tribute which vice pays to virtue"
just seems to be rattling round my head constantly these days.
Last Friday was about Goodes looking for his Rosa Parks moment, and Eddie looking to protect and enhance "Brand Eddie".
ReplyDeleteThis was followed by the entire press contingent having a stacks-on with a 13 year old girl in a display of collective public sycophancy, the likes of which we haven't seen since the pre-revolutionary French Royal court.
The Irish Lion (not Ape)
When the tumbrils start rolling in the coming revolution make sure one stops at Adelaide's Sunday Mail. Load up the entire editorial staff, please. I'm teaching myself knitting.

Dear Irish Lion,
DeleteBoth Shaggy-maned Irish Lions and Hairy Irish Apes have an affectionate place in my iconography of the craic, a Bestiary indeed.
I am very fond of whisky-toned singing and song from denizens of the Emerald Isle, who, like those of the hirsute gender everywhere, may sometimes behave in ways that are beyond female comprehension.
In appreciation, sincerely,
Lizzie B.
Well, I guess that means only white-fellas will be doing any lucrative promo stunts for King Kong. Honestly, these politically correct zealots tie themselves in knots trying to be more politically correct than anyone else. I suppose tying yourself in knots saves you from disappearing up your own back orifice. Where they all belong.
ReplyDeletePedro of Adelaide
Oh, this is going to be good! One of our "moral superiors" on the rack.
ReplyDeleteI am an old bird now but in my 13th year I would never have thought of the word "ape" as being racist. To we kids it would just have been a word meaning not a great deal. I grew up in a children's home and spent years being known as a Rathgar Rat (the name of the Home).it did not stunt my growth, did not scar me for life, I just grew up.
ReplyDeleteBunyip, the problem there will lie with the facts:
ReplyDelete1. Eddie is in the meeja
2. Eddie is of 'the Left'
Therefore there will be no 're-education' required.
So, if an aboriginal, or part aboriginal footballer calls an opponent a "bloody great ranga", can the opponent take offence for being likened to an orag-utan? And if so, why?
ReplyDeleteThere is definitely too many offensive remarks against other people. The makers of mirrors are expecting to make a killing with all the pent up frustration about to explode....capitalist dogs!!!

is he a supporter of eugenics or not
Is there any chance that this might be the end of the matter? All AFL players are treated like royalty, except when they're plYing against your team. There is no racism in this sorry episode.
ReplyDeleteThe girl regrets what she said, Eddie regrets what he said, and I reckon it's a fair bet Adam Goodes now regrets having made anything of it.
This is almost as boring as the recent Waterhouse-Singleton horse-racing saga.
No. Not boring at all. Very, very satisfying.
DeleteSanctimony come undone.
Oh hahaha
Perhaps from an objective viewpoint (about what a reasonable person would suppose) it was 'racist' to describe Goodes as an ape. Although only perhaps. But it is another step to say that the barely 13 year old child was guilty of making a racist comment. (And it appears that in this case the police had some criminal charge in mind.) In effect, she claimed she lacked intent to assert that Goodes was ape-like and that this is a form of abuse more commonly associated with persons of colour.
ReplyDeleteThis line of argument, should any of you wish to confound your opponents in debate, is supported by the rule applicable in all Australian jurisdictions that a child aged between 10 and 14 is presumed not to be capable of having the mental element of a crime (here intent) as they do not yet have a sufficient understanding between "right and wrong". This is rebuttable by the prosecution (as sometimes happens when a 12 year old car thief is proved to have been previously charged with the offence). This would be very unlikely here.
I hope some of you are enlightened by this!
The age of criminal responsibility in Australia is the age below which a child is deemed incapable of having committed a criminal offence. In legal terms, it is referred to as a defense of infancy.
All States of Australia have adopted a uniform age of criminal responsibility.
Doli incapax refers to a presumption that a child is "incapable of crime" under legislation or common law. Or rather, the presumption that a child cannot form mens rea as they do not yet have a sufficient understanding between "right and wrong". In the context of Australian law, doli incapx acts as a rebuttable presumption for children aged at least 10 but less than 14.
Oh no JC. It is fascinating. Like most people, I could barely imagine how great was the insult that would provoke that reaction from a six foot something 33 year old master footballer.
ReplyDeleteOften in Geelong I see members of our own illustrious team. They look fairly substantial but I'll be careful not to upset them or push in front of them at the checkout.

ReplyDeleteSlip of the tongue blamed on fatigue.
Everyone should take a long, cold shower, to borrow a phrase from a political super-genius.
There. All clear. Move on everyone.
In the Rock Paper Scissors hierarchy of the Left's rules of life, Race trumps Feminism, but what they momentarily forgot in the heat of battle in the dying minutes of Wog round was that Children trump Race! By their own reckoning, they have scored an own goal.
ReplyDeleteLet's just sit back and watch the fireworks as it gets more and more convoluted.
Let's not forget Eddie's sexism Prof.
ReplyDeleteRemember he 'boned' Jessica Rowe at Channel 9.
The Irish Lion
I'm praying for this saga to be topped off by Sam Newman making his grand entrance tomorrow night dressed as a gorilla in a Swans guernsey. Or for something a bit tamer perhaps Street Talk from the zoo.
ReplyDeleteMulatto race huckster versus morbidly obese Melbourne "identity" with the usual muddy left wing leanings.
ReplyDeleteThis should be the top of the card bout.
But it won't be- Mcquire will kowtow and princess footballer will cement his race huckster credentials, not to mention his title as softest man in sport.
If the thirteen year old white girl has a man in her family, he's presumably out looking for the footballer right now so they can discuss things man to pussy.
Ape-ology not accepted Eddie?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see Goodse's new diamond tiara. Will he be wearing it at the upcoming 'Pathetic Princess Fairies' round?
ReplyDeleteF*ck me, can't anybody say anything anymore? People call me a bald-headed prick. Because I am. It's derogatory and insulting, but also kind of fun. In the new political order, it's also 'racist'.
I would love to see Goodes get booed by the crowd at his next game but alas, I fear Australia no longer has the balls for such natural expression.
My wife used to call Fraser Gehrig 'The Monkey'. The first time I took her to a footy game she just came out with it. Why? Because he reminded her of a monkey. She loved watching him play footy, and 'The Monkey' was a term of affection. Nowadays it's just an obvious sign that she's an evil racist.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's all compare this truly piss weak episode in both AFL and so-called 'race relations', with the truly great moment of defiance and character given to us by Nicky Winmar.
ReplyDeleteYou can't be serious.
DeleteWinmar lifted his jumper and pointed to his skin in reaction to racist abuse from the crowd.
Fair enough but hardly a 'great moment of defiance'?
Is it OK to call Goodes a princess?
ReplyDeleteOf course McGuire must resign immediately. He must abide by the rule that he, as President of Collingwood, has stated on the Collingwood website:
ReplyDelete"Everyone knows the rules at Collingwood: if you racially vilify anybody, it's zero tolerance; you're out."
End of story. No apology is acceptable. If he doesn't resign, then he must be sacked forthwith.
Anyone catch the lesser McGuire -big brother Frank who represents the downtrodden folk of Broadmeadows from his Brighton residence - attempt to stick it up George Pell the other day
ReplyDeleteNo doubt this will go down well with his many Muslim constituents
McGuire is a Collingwood supporter. No further comment required.
ReplyDeleteNot McGuire, Eddie Booth. He was the white honky who lived next door to the nig-nog in Love Thy Neighbour.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the craziest things I've ever seen. All this kerfuffle over one single word. It wasn't even a four letter word.
ReplyDeleteIf you are suffering from racism overload you will enjoy this:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_y8umFuE5c
On the ABC midday news today, Ros Childs presented a 5 minute review of Eddie McGuire’s purported racist gaffe & ongoing apologies thereto, as well as an in-depth interview with the wonderful Barrie Cassidy, who virtuously spent another minute or two bagging him again. Funny, I don’t recall a 5 minute session on the ABC midday news, with the fullcourt press from Cassidy, when ABC sports broadcaster, David Morrow, was recently caught by an open mic, aping – if I can use that term – the hypothetical manner of speech of a hypothetical ethnic group. Did someone mention hypocrisy?
ReplyDeleteJust a litle bit hysterical, eh Bunyip?
ReplyDeleteHave you had problems with EMcG in the past?
No invite to Millionaire maybe.
All your fuss about McGuire and cry-baby Goodes.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the appalling treatment given to the girl. Much of which was illegal.
I like falafels. And garlic sauce.
ReplyDeleteIf that helps.
I bet this episode opens up some lucrative
ReplyDeletecareer opportunities for Goodes when his playing days are over.
Not sure about 'princess', but he sure is precious, Goodes is.
ReplyDeleteProf, that photograph will become iconic. In a way that Goodes may well live to regret. I hope he does so already.
ReplyDeleteHairy Ape footballer monstering thirteen year-old girl. Public denunciation and calling for execution via shaming. Which then happens.
Bringing all good Hairy Apes into disrepute here.
We apes are really pissed off. We are offended by the very idea of compared to a human and a bloody footballer at that.
ReplyDeleteCollingwood from now on will be known as 'The Beekeepers.' Why? Look up the proper name for bee keeper!
ReplyDeletePerhaps it wasn't racial vilification, but vilification on the basis of species.
ReplyDeleteCheers
eddie and demetriou want single mothers from moe on the disability pension to realise they are not good enough to send their children to the footbsll, they 'lower the tone'. in a melbourne of two million,a family could go to the footy and even the grand final,in a big australia of a 10 million population melbourne, the mcg will be all corporate boxes, and the crowd will be invited tax deductable guests that care nothing about the game, just the networking. moe social security dependants will stay home and subscribe to eddies 'collingwood pay tv channel'. normal families will pay thousands to go to the grand final, eddie will get free tickets, and the corporate box will be a tax deduction.
